About Day Lily: Day lily is a perennial flowering plant, and lots of flowers bloom at once. Day lily has lots of verities like a ruby spider, red magic, wayside king royal, and more. The growing method is the same or different (it depends on the verities), or we can’t grow lilies using cutting. The scientific name of daylily is Hemerocallis, and it belongs to the Asphodelaceae family.

Over time plants grow up to 10 inches to 4 feet (size depends on verity). The leaves of the plant are soft green and grow up to 10 to 18 inches with spread up to 2 feet. Midribs and veins are green in colour. Day Lillie is easy to grow where there are USDA hardiness zone should be 4-9.

How To Plant Day Lilies Bulb at Home

There are many verities of day lily, but plantation methods are different (depending on the verity). When you purchase bulbs from an online store or a local nursery, always check that bulbs have sprouted parts. Always buy large bulbs. February or March is the best time to plant bulbs at home.

Best Trick to Prepare a Soil Mixture :

To make a soil mixture, take well-drained garden soil (35%), sand (35%), and any compost (30%). Mix it well and take out a large flower pot (size should be 10 to 12 inches). Fill the soil mixture(50%) in the flower pot and take the daylilies bulbs. Dig holes 7 to 8 inches deep and put the bulbs into holes. Cover the bulbs with soil potting and give water properly. After all, this, place the plant in indirect sunlight.

Remember:  While planting bulbs, the sprouting part should be up and the soil mixture should be slightly acidic. In a flowerpot, make sure drainage holes are available at the surface of the pot. If there are no drainage holes then, make 5 to 8 holes. After plantation, pour fungicide powder to kill soil diseases.

Within 7 to 8 days, new leaves and branches start coming out from the plants. If you planted 2 to 3 bulbs in one flowerpot, there is no need to transplant them. Maintain healthy moisture in the soil.

Top 4 Caring Tips :

Watering: Don’t overwater. Overwatering causes bulbs to rot due to giving more water to the pot. Always keep moisture in the soil before germination. During the summer season, give water after 2 to 3 days, and during the winter season, twice in a week season.

Temperature: Maintaining temperature is very important for plants for their growth. For the best result, keep the plants in full sunlight ( at least 7 to 8 hours) during the summer season. During the winter season, keep the plants in full sunlight, or you can maintain temperatures between 15°C to 25°C.

The best fertilizer for flowering: Always use the best fertilizer for the best result. Day-lily plants need fertilizer after 30 to 40 days or before the flowering season and use vermicompost for the best result. After fertilization, give water properly.

Pruning Time: Prune the plants before the growing season. Cut the dried leaves and faded flowers, and the head part of the stem. For pruning, always use garden tools.
