About Papaya: Papaya is one of the best fruit in the Cactaceae family. It is cultivated in three forms: male, female, and hermaphrodite. Papaya has many types: red, orange, yellow, and sweet. It is native to Central America, and southern Mexico. The Scientific name is Carica, and it comes with the Caricaceae family. There are 20+ species of the Caricaceae family worldwide.

How to Plant Seeds at Home: One of the best ways to plant papaya at home is by using its seeds. Using seeds has two methods: one is dried seeds, and the other is fresh seeds. Fresh seeds take lots of time for germination, but dried seeds germinate faster.  To get a dried seed, take out the fresh seeds, and keep the seeds in the full sunlight (at least 2, 3 days).

How to Make Top Quality Soil Potting: To make a soil mixture, take out the garden soil (40%), vermicompost (30%), and cow dung (30%) or home-based fertilizer. Mix it well and make a well-drained soil mixture. Fill the soil mixture into a large flowerpot and push the soil with your hand (remove soil air). Take the papaya seeds (dried or fresh) and put them over the soil. Cover the seeds with the soil mixture.

After all, give water well and keep the flowerpot in the indirect sunlight. Within 15 to 20 days, germination starts from the seeds and tiny leaves, and one branch appears from the plants. After 30 to 40 days, germination grows up to 3 to 5 inches, and it is time to transplant plants.

Remember: USDA hardiness zone should be 5 to 10 indoor and outdoor 8 to 11. In a flowerpot, make sure drainage holes are available or not. If there are no holes at the surface, make 5 to 9 holes (Drainage holes are necessary). Cover the holes with a grenade or stones. For the best result, use a ceramic flowerpot. The distance between the seeds should be 2 to 3 cm apart.

Transplantation: Transplantation is necessary for each plant. For transplantation, remove all the small plants (size 3 to 5 inches) in the soil potting. While removing the plants, keep in mind that the plant’s roots should not be broken. Use the well-drained garden soil without compost and plant in a separate flowerpot.

Best 3 Caring Tips

Watering: Do not overwater. Maintain well moisture in the soil potting (During the winter and summer seasons). After transplantation, use a water spray gun.

Temperature: For best growth, keep the plants in the direct sunlight for 5 to 6 hours or keep the plants in a place where there are 5 to 7 hours of sunlight. During the winter season or rainy season, keep the plants in full sunlight.

Top-quality fertilizer: It is necessary to fertilize the plants for good plant growth, and cow dung or homemade manure can be added to the papaya plants. After 30 to 45 days, give fertilizer to the plant. After fertilization, watering is necessary.

Flowering Season: After the plantation, the flowers start blooming after 3 to 5 months, and these flowers are light yellow with white shaded. Each flower has 5 to 6 petals with a yellow centre part.

Fruit’s Time: After flowering, small fruits begin. Over time, fruits grow up to 10 to 15 inches with a round shape and spread up to 4 to 15 inches. Initially, these fruits are green in colour, and after ripening, these fruits turn a yellow colour. When you see all the papaya in yellow colour, you can harvest them with a cutter.
