About Lotus: Lotus is one of the best flowering plants in the family of Nelumbonaceae. It has a common name like Indian Lotus or Sacred Lotus. Sacred Lotus is quickly grown in water by using its seeds and rhizome. The scientific name is Nelumbo nucifera, and it belongs to the Nelumbonaceae family. The Lotus flower is the national flower of India.

Lotus has lots of verities like rhizomes, seeds, and flowers. It blooms different types of flowers like red, white, pink, yellow, blue, and red. At a time, bloom lots of flowers and give a fragrant smell. Flower sizes grow up to 2 to 3 inches with lots of petals. The colour of the sepals and petals depends on the varieties.

Over time, the stalks/rhizomes of the plants grow from 4 to 8 feet long with a spread of up to 2 feet. The leaves grow up to 10 to 25 inches with a round shape.

How to Plant Seeds in Water: One of the best methods to plant Lotus at home by using its seeds. It’s simple with minimum caring. Seeds are tiny in size (size at least 1 to 2 cm long). Always buy ripe seeds, which are black in colour and round in shape. February and March are the best time for the plantation.

Steps for plantation:

  • Take the seeds and scratch the sharp part with sandpaper until the inner function does not appear.
  • Keep the seeds in water (at least 4 to 5 hours).
  • If germination appears from the seeds, then change the water.
  • If germination has not appeared from the seeds, then keep them in water.
  • If germination grows up to 7 to 8 inches with 1 to 2 leaves, then it’s time to transplant them with a flowerpot.

Within 20 to 25 days, roots have appeared from the seeds with newly branches. The roots are white.

Remember: If you do not scratch the seeds, then the seeds take lots of time to germinate. For best growth, use a ceramic flowerpot.

How to Transplant: Take the clay soil or mud soil and one flowerpot. Fill the flowerpot with clay soil and give water properly until the ground becomes soggy. Take the germinated plants, dig a hole (2 to 3 inches deep), put the plants into those holes, and cover the rooting part with the soil. After all, keep the flowerpot in full sunlight.

Top 4 Caring Tips:

  • Watering: Lotus plants need lots of water during the growing season. Always maintain the soil soggy. During the winter season, give water after 4 to 5 days. Before watering, always check the top layer of soil potting.
  • Temperature: For best growth, keep the plants in full sunlight, or you can maintain the temperature between 20°C to 25°C. Save the plants from high-temperature (above 25°C) and heavy rain.
  • Top Quality Fertilizer: Lotus plants do not need any types of fertilizer or compost. Always change the soil after 2 to 4 months.
  • Pruning & Cutting: If the plant’s growths are stuck, then you need to prune the dry leaves, and faded flowers. For pruning, use gardening tools.
