About Gerbera Daisy: Gerbera daisy is the most popular flowering plant, or it is a perennial flowering plant. Gerbera comes with different types of flower colours like red, pink, yellow, white, and much more. The scientific name of gerbera daisy is Gerbera, and it comes from the Asteraceae family.
Plants grow up to 15 to 18 inches tall and spread up to 20 to 22 inches. The leaves are green in colour, and margins are zig-zag type. The midrib is light white, and the veins are a green shade. The leaves grow up to 3 to 6 inches and spread up to 1 to 1.5 inches. Leaves have lots of moisture, and moisture is pulpy type.
How to plant seeds at home: There are two methods to grow Gerbera at home, one is using seeds, and another is by cutting. In this post, we will know how to grow and plant seeds.
Gerbera seeds are tiny in size (2 to 6 mm). You can buy seeds from an online store or local nursery, and December or January is the best time to plant seeds at home.
Prepare a Soil Mixture & Planting
Take coco peat (60%), vermicompost (40%), and 20gm fungicide powder to make a soil potting. Mix it well and take a flower pot (at least 8 to 10 inches). Fill the soil mixture in the flower pot and give water to the soil (by doing this, air should be removed from the soil). Take out gerbera seeds and put the seeds on the soil.
Cover the seeds with the soil mixture and spray water properly. Keep the plants in semi-shaded locations or indoor locations. Within 20 to 25 days, germination starts from the seeds and tiny leaves appearing from the plants, or sometimes it takes more time to germinate (it depends on the verity of Gerbera). So be patient.
Remember: While mixing a soil mixture, remove out all the small stones or pebbles and make sure drainage holes are available at the surface of the flower pot. If there are no drainage holes, make 5 to 6 holes and cover the holes with any stones or grenades. Soil pH should be 5 to 6 and USDA hardiness zone 7 to 11.
How to Transplant: If 5 to 8 seeds are sown in a single pot, then transplanting is not required, and if 20 to 30 seeds are sown in a single pot, then every plant needs to be transplanted. For transplantation, use the same soil mixture and plant only 5 to 7 plants in a single flower pot.
Top Caring Tips :
Watering: Before germination, the top layer of soil potting should be moist, and after germination or transplantation, give water after 1 to 2 days (also in summer days). For watering, always use the water spray gun
Temperature: for best growth and flowering, always maintain the temperature between 15°C to 30°C. Save plants from heavy rain and high temperature (above 30°C). Above 30°C temperature, The leaves and flowers of the plant faded and broke. So always maintain temperature.
Top Fertilizer: If there is no flowering within 3 to 4 months, use NPK 19-19-19 or cow dung. After fertilization, give water properly. Always give fertilizer after 30 to 40 days.
Bloom Time: After sowing its seeds, flowers start blooming after 3 to 4 months. Many flowers bloom on this plant, which looks beautiful and attractive. Flowers attract birds, bees, butterflies, Japanese beetles, and more.
