About Zinnia Flowering Plant: Zinnia is one of the best summer flowering plants with various types of flowers, and there are lots of verities (common Zinnia, desert zinnia, etc.). Some verities grow all the season, and many types of flowers bloom on this plant-like single layer flowering, double layer flowering, and semi-layer flowering. These flowers depend on the variety of plants. Zinnia plants grow 10 to 12 inches, and many verities grow up to 4 feet.

The scientific name of Zinnia is the same as Zinnia has, and it belongs to the Asteraceae family.

Physical Look: Leaves of plants are green in colour with different types of shapes. The shape of leaves depends on varieties, and some varieties have round shapes, and some have large and thin shapes. Leaves grow up to 2 to 4 inches tall and 1 inch wide, and veins and midribs are a light green colour. Branches of the plant are thin (2 to 3 mm in size) and green in colour.

How to plant seeds: First of all, we need to purchase zinnia seeds from an online store or local nursery shop.

Prepare a Soil Mixture

To make a soil mixture, take well-drained garden soil (45%), fine sand (40%), and vermicompost (15%). Mix it well and remove small stones and pebbles from the soil mixture. Take a small flower pot ( at least 3 to 4 inches) and fill it with soil mixture. Please take out the seeds and pour them on the soil potting. Now pour 1 inch of soil mixer over the seeds and spray water.

After all, cover the flower pot with any garden accessories like polythene. Place the flower pot in a semi-shaded place. Within 15 days, germination starts from the seed, and small leaves and small branches are noticed from the plants. After germination, keep the plant in sunny areas. If germination grows to 2 to 3 inches with 4 to 5 leaves, it’s time to transplant them separately with a separate flower pot.

How To Transplant: Use the same soil mixture and take a large flower pot (at least 10 to 12 inches). Fill it with soil mixture and take out plants. Dig a hole 5 to 7 inches deep in the soil. Put the plants into the hole, cover the roots with soil, and press soil near the plants. Give water properly and place the plants in full sunlight.

While planting: USDA hardiness zone 5-8 and seeds does not overlap while planting. Make sure drainage holes are available on the surface of the flower pot, if there are no drainage holes on the surface of the pot, make 5 to 6 holes.

Top Caring  Tips :

Watering:  Don’t overwater. In the summer season (April to June), give water properly or after 1 to 2 days. Before germination, keep well moisture in the soil. After germination, give water after 2 to 4 days. You can always use the spray gun for watering.

Temperature: Best temperature gives the best result. Keep the plants in full sunlight for at least 5 to 6 hours or always maintain the temperature between 15°C to 30°C.  In the winter season, always keep plants in full sunlight.

Best Fertilizer: Always give the best fertilizer for a top result. Give fertilizer to the plant once every month and after fertilization, give water properly. Cow dung and NPK are the best fertilizer for best results.

Pruning:  Before the growing season, pruning is essential for every plant. Cut out the dry/spot leaves and faded flowers or head part of plants.

Bloom Season: If you plant its seeds at the end of winter (December or January), then after 2 to 3 months, flowers start blooming, and this flower blooms in many colours like orange, pink, purple, red, white, and multicolour. Single-layer flowers have 8 to 15 petals, double layer flowering has 15 to 30 petals, and semi-layer flowering has 40+ petals. Every stem has one bloom.
