About Rose Plants: Rose plant is one of the best flowering plants in the family of Rosacea. The Rosacea family has many rose verities like Grandiflora, Floribunda, Climber, and rambler and shrub. These are the common verities of rose plants. Over time, plants grow up to 3 to 5 feet tall with spread up to 2 to 3 feet. The scientific name is Rosa, and it comes from the Rosaceae family.

How to Plant Seeds and Cutting: We have two types of methods for plantation, one is by using seeds, and another is cutting. Both methods are simple with minimum care. In this post, we will know both methods. Rose seeds are light to dark brown in colour with small stone shapes, or some seeds are black in colour. The size of the seeds is 5 to 6 mm long. Rose seeds and grafted plants are easily available in local nurseries or online stores.

Prepare a Soil Potting: To make a soil mixture, take garden soil (15%), coco peat (55%), and sand (30%). Mix it well and remove small stones and pebbles. Take out the small flowerpot (size maybe 6 to 8 inches). Now follow these steps for easy plantation.

  • Fill the soil mixture into the flowerpot.
  • Spray some water (soil air removed).
  • Take out the seeds and dig the holes (1 inch deep).
  • Put the seeds into those holes and cover the seeds with the same soil mixture.
  • Give water properly and cover the flowerpot with a polybag.
  • Place the flowerpot in a semi-shaded location.

Within 10 to 12 days, germination starts from the seeds, and small leaves appear from the plants. Most of the time, seeds are not germinated due to soil soggy or other diseases. 5 out of 15 seeds germinate. If the rose plants grow up to 4 to 6 inches with 5 to 6 leaves, then it’s time to transplant them with a new or separate flowerpot.

Remember Before Planting: USDA hardiness zone should be 7-11. In a flowerpot, make sure drainage holes are available or not. If there are no holes at the surface, then make 5 to 9 holes (Drainage holes are necessary). Cover the holes with a grenade or stones. Use a ceramic flowerpot. The distance between the seeds should be 1 to 2 inches.

Transplantation: For transplantation, use the garden soil (30%), sand (30%), and vermicompost (40%). Take the 5 to 6 inches sizes of a flowerpot with good drainage holes—transplant all the plants in the soil up to 5 to 6 inches deep. Place the flowerpot in full sunlight.

Cutting Method: Cut out the 5 to 6 inches cutting from the rose plant with 45-degree angles. Always cut the stalk part of the plant. Use the same soil mixture and plant the cutting up to 3 to 4 inches deep. Cover the cutting with a polybag and place the pot in a semi-shaded location.

Caring Tips of Rose Flowers

  • Watering: During the summer season, give water properly, and in the winter season, give water after 3 to 4 days (if the top layer of soil is drying). Don’t overwater; overwatering makes the soil soggy, and plants are withered. Before the germination period, use the spray water gun.
  • Temperature: Always keep the plants in the perfect places where the morning sunlight is good, or you can maintain the temperature between 15°C to 25°C.
  • Best Compost: Before the flowering season, give fertilizer. Vermicompost and cow dung is the best fertilizer for rose water.
  • Pests & Diseases: If any types of insects and diseases attack the plants, don’t forget to spray pesticide liquid on the plants.
  • Pruning: Pruning is necessary if plants have faded flowers, dry leaves, and unwanted branches.

Flowering Season: Flowers start blooming on the plants within 3 to 4 months, and these flowers have many colours like red, white, pink, and white with pink. Flower colours depend on the rose verities.
