About Muskmelon: Muskmelon is one of the king fruits in the Cucurbitaceae family. These fruits are easily available in the fruit shop or online shop. This fruit is round in shape with a size of 7 to 15 inches (the fruit’s size depends on verities)—lots of common names like kharbuj, kharbuja, kharbooza, chibunda, madhuphala, etc. Common verities are Cantaloupe, Honeydew melon, Galia melon, and Canary melon but the sweetest verities are Honeydew melon.

The scientific name is and it comes with the Cucurbitaceae family. The Cucurbitaceae family have 900+ species are available in the world.

How to Plant Seeds in Flowerpot: Many muskmelon verities exist, but growing methods are the same. The plantation is accessible by using its seeds and always buying fresh and organic seeds. Seeds are white in colour or depend on verities, but mostly verities have white seeds the size of 1 cm long. The summer season is the best time for plantation.

Prepare a Soil Potting & Planting Seeds: For best growth, keep the seeds in the water (at least 5 to 8 hours). After that, remove the seeds from the water and wash them properly. For making a soil mixture, take out the garden soil with any compost (cow dung, vermicompost, cocopeat). Mix it well and take a small flowerpot (size 3 to 5 inches). Fill the soil mixture into the flowerpot and spray some water.

Take out the seeds, dig a small hole, put the seeds into those holes, and cover the seeds with the same soil mixture. After all, spray water and cover the flowerpot with a polybag (for humidity maintenance). Keep the pot in an indoor location until germination. Within 5 to 7 days, germination starts from the seeds, and tiny leaves and one stem appear from each plant.

Within 15 to 20 days, plants grow up to 5 to 8 inches with 7 to 15 leaves, so it’s time to transplant them with a separate flowerpot.

While planting: USDA hardiness zone should be 4-10 and soil mixture slightly acidic. In a flowerpot, make sure drainage holes are available or not. If there are no holes at the surface, then make 5 to 9 holes (Drainage holes are necessary). Cover the holes with a grenade or stones. Use a clay flowerpot. The distance between the seeds should be 2 to 3 cm long.

How to Transplant: For transplantation, remove all old plants from the flowerpot and take a new flowerpot (size should be 10 to 15 inches with a diameter of 5 to 7 inches). Use garden soil with decomposed cow dung. Use the same methods for soil mixing and plant them properly. For the best result, choose the ground site.

Best Fertilizer with Caring Tips:

  • Watering: Don’t overwater or before watering; always check the top layer of the soil mixture. If soil is dried, give water properly or maintain moisture in the soil potting.
  • Temperature: For the best result, keep the plants in full sunlight (6 to 8 hours). During the winter season, keep the plants in full sunlight. Recommended temperature is 15°C to 30°C.
  • Fertilizer: Don’t give any type of fertilizer during the winter season, and always give fertilizer during the growing season. Cow dung is the best fertilizer for muskmelon vines.
  • Pruning & Cutting: If you want to prune muskmelon vines, then cut the head of stems and faded flowers and leaves. Prune the vines with the help of a cutter, do not prune or cut with your hand.

Season of fruits: During the summer season, muskmelon is welcome. If you sow its seeds, then it takes 4 to 5 months of flowering, and after flowering, the fruit begins. Initially, these fruits are small and green in colour with a round shape. Over time, these fruits grow up to 7 to 15 inches or depend on verities of musk melon. The price of fruits ranges from 10 to Rs 100.
