About Golden Shower Plants: Golden Shower or Amaltas are one of the best flower plants in the family of Fabaceae. Most of the parts of the tree are used to make different types of herbal medicine. The scientific name is Cassia fistula, and it belongs to the Fabaceae family.

Over time plants grow up to 30 to 50 feet tall and spread up to 10 to 15 feet. Leaves are dark green with a pinnatisect shape and grow 10 to 15 inches long. It gives fruits, which are pods in shape, and each pod has 8 to 10 seeds.

How to Plant at Home: One of the best methods to plant a golden shower at home is by using its seeds. Seeds are inside the pods (amaltas fruits), and each pod has 8 to 10 seeds. Pods are black in colour and size up to 8 to 10 inches with a round shape. Seeds are easily available at the local nursery or online store.

Prepare a Soil Potting & Planting Seeds: To make a good quality soil mixture, take garden soil (80%) and coco peat (20%). Coco peat is necessary because coco peat maintains moisture. Mix it well and take a large flower pot (size 8 to 10 inches)

  • Fill the soil mixture into the flowerpot.
  • Press the soil with your hand (remove soil air).
  • Please take out the seeds and spray them on the soil.
  • Cover the seeds with a soil mixture.
  • Give some water and place the pot in the shaded area.

Within 4 to 5 days, germination starts from the seeds, and 2 to 3 leaves appear from the seeds. If the plants grow up to 5 to 6 inches, then it’s time to transplant them with a separate flowerpot.

How to Transplant : Take well-drained garden soil and large flowerpot.

  • Remove the plants from the old flowerpots (remove carefully, roots should not break).
  • Fill the soil mixture into a flowerpot and dig a hole (3 to 4 inches deep), and put the plants into those holes.
  • Cover the rooting system with soil.
  • Give some water and place the plants in full sunlight.

Remember while soil mixing: USDA hardiness zone should be 8-11. In a flowerpot, make sure drainage holes are available or not. If there are no holes at the surface, then make 5 to 9 holes (Drainage holes are necessary). Cover the holes with a grenade or stones. Use a clay flowerpot. Distance between the seeds should be 1 to 2 inches.

If the plants grow up to 5 to 7 feet tall, we have to transplant them in the ground site (it’s necessary; otherwise, plants do not give the best result).

Top Caring Tips :

  • Watering: Don’t overwater. Always maintain the moisture in the soil. During the summer season, give water properly because the soil dries quickly. For the best result, use rainwater
  • Temperature: Keep the plants in full sunlight because it gives the best result in full sunlight. Recommended temperature is 15°C to 30°C.
  • Best Fertilizer: During the growing season, give cocopeat. After fertilization, give water properly.
  • Pests & Diseases: If any types of insects (mealybugs, mites, aphids) and diseases attack the plants, then don’t forget to spray medicine. You can use neem oil or pesticide liquid.
  • Pruning: Before the growing season, pruning is necessary. Prune the dried leaves and faded flowers, and dried branches. Always use a cutting tool.

Bloom Season: Within 5 to 7 years of plantation, flowers start blooming on the tree, and these flowers are 2 to 3 types of colours like red and yellow. Flower colours depend on the variety. Flowers are beautiful and attractive and give a fragrant smell. Flowers attract the birds like hummingbirds, sparrows…etc. At a time it gives lots of flowers.
